Miss Kelly, if you intend to pursue a legal career, you indeed have much to learn. Your passion and ego do not serve you well in your rants.

The Roe v. Wade decision, contrary to what many think, actually enabled abortion in almost any circumstance. States were able to enact laws as they saw fit, but the Court struck down most of them. Roe v. Wade gave what many called a constitutional right to abortion, but even Ruth Bader Ginsburg said Roe was wrongly decided. The court created a right to privacy using terms such as "emanations" and "penumbras."

So, to change law regarding abortion requires either:

1 - A law that stands up to challenge in the Supreme Court and reduces the scope of Roe v. Wade. Here you are wrong again, Miss Kelly, since the court recently upheld the federal statute banning the horrible partial birth abortion. As well, parental notification statutes have been upheld.

2 - A constitutional amendment could change the definition of a citizen to one conceived, rather than one born. Or, an amendment could restrict the gruesome procedure. A tougher task than you think.

3 - The make up of the Court has shifted slightly. This may result in subtle change over time.

So, Kelly, your rant posed as a question is revealed to be just a rant. You are still overzealous activist, not yet competent debater.

As for the borders...there is one area I finally agree with you. We are at war with zealots, who will sneak in and kill us unless we secure our borders.

As is beginning to be recognized by some leaders of the pro-life movement, the Republican Party has never intended to end legalized abortion. Instead, they are quite happy coming up with a new regulation every year that impacts a very tiny number of abortions. This strategy keeps the pro-life voters voting Republicans, keeps the lobbyists for the pro-life group employed, and keeps pro-choice upper middle class voters in the Republican column because these regulation will never stop someone with money from being able to get a legal abortion.

I would also note that Stephens (and most of the judges over the years) who have been crucial to upholding Roe v. Wade where appointed by Republican Presidents (the original decision was 7-2, with a 5-1 vote among Republican appointees). So, the Democrats can't be blamed for Roe v. Wade.

A similar thing can be said on immigration. The Republicans know that it is almost impossible to fully secure the border against illegal immigration but voting for minor improvements lets them say that they are doing something. Meanwhile, they refuse to take actions against the major corporations that are knowingly assisting illegal aliens to cross the border so that they can have workers willing to pluck chickens without health benefits.

these so called elected officials that claim to be Republicans are actually leaning more to the left and behave more like a democrat. Case in Point: John McCain, he's really a democrat, but claims to be a Republican. Coming from Texas, I have decided to never vote straight ticket ever again. It's time for all americans to weigh and decide on each candidate based on their merits! not their party affiliation. Even though I was a registered Republican, I am not anymore, I am Independent! I will never vote someone because of their party only! I will base my vote on their stance on issues independently. I hope everyone does the same.
Kinky Friedman brought a breathe of fresh air to Texas politics when he was running for Governor.

Basically I think the majority of politicians are actually self serving. They are not in the position to actually do whats right for this country. They are bought out by big corporations, in the name of lobbying! They are looking out for themselves only. What a shame!
The republicans had the country in the palms of their hand, and they let it slip away!

I am sorry if I appear to be jaded about my thoughts on politicians, I too was hopeful the republicans would have made a difference, they had their chance, but in my opinion they have lost it. So from now on I am evaluating each candidate based on their merits. whoever they may be!

I too am disappointed with the adminsistration!
Ultimately I think the reason the representatives did not fix these things is because, we the people did not hold them accountable. too many distractions..... sports, paris hilton, american idol, dancing with the stars, etc....

You're right in the respect that the Republicans dragged their feet and didn't enact legislation banning abortions. Like typical politicians, they talk a good tune, but produce very little.

On the other hand, had not liberals kept the abortion mills going for decades, and killing innocent babies by the millions, this kind of legislation would never have to be made. The Republicans are definitely guilty of neglect of their duties, but the liberals are responsible for the blood of those babies. I wonder if you can honestly live with that. And if you can, you are truly a sad case.

There were more pressing issues over the last 6 years. And the Democrats implementing national healthcare during their time in the majority?

Besides I thought Democrats were suppose to standup and protect the "little guy". You'd think they would be against abortion.

Well, I think the US Supreme court is the only one that can make abortion illegal. And also as with what the Democrats are having trouble with now in the Senate you really need 60 votes to do anything major, not just a majority.

On the border, Republicans are afraid that they will lose the Hispanic vote if they look like the ones keeping them out.

The Democrats could give a rats as* on border security.
They want as many people receiving government money as possible so that can get their vote.

The Democrat's prevented it? Actually, the border has been a sieve since the 50's. When our Congress (Democrat controlled) passed amnesty in 1989, they promised to fix the border. They did nothing about it for the next 5 years. The Republicans then came to power in controlling Congress and they did nothing about it. Just reinforces my argument that it doesn't matter who is in control. Both parties are full of crooks, liars and perverts.

Because those were baloney slogans they said just to get certain people to vote their way. Bush even admitted that they wouldn't push the abortion issue because it would be too unpopular and the border thing wasn't going to be pushed because they like the cheap labor and it also helps to push down other working class people's wages. And the main thing is the special interest paid them and a politician doesn't look a gift horse in the mouth, know what I mean.

It wasn't what the United States wanted and they had the respect necessary to restrain themselves.

It got them votes and when they got into office they realized just what a mess it would cause if they did change it.

Take your pick.

Same thing for a democrat congress/house/senate which yells "Impeach and end the war!" and then doesn't when they get into office.

Government is far more complex and filled with far more men of integrity than the public will ever credit them. I had two parents in government. The stories I've heard would make you ashamed to be "part of the public".

Because you live in the US and in order to have passed legislation you describe it would have required a super-majority in order to block the minorites strong objections.
Would you rather have the minorities rights trampled all over simply because around 60% said one thing and tried to put there views on the 40%. Im against abortion in all cases but rape, incest, and immidiete danger to the woman that would otherwise kill her. But still since Republicans did not have a super majority to use to accomplish their goals.
