Don't get busted!
People DO get caught stealing "stuff" using P2P filesharing programs such as Limewire, Kazza etc, and face large fines.
People as young as 12 years old.
"The music industry has turned its big legal guns on Internet music-swappers — including a 12-year-old New York City girl who thought downloading songs was fun."
"Brianna LaHara said she was frightened to learn she was among the hundreds of people sued yesterday by giant music companies in federal courts around the country."
"I got really scared. My stomach is all turning," Brianna said last night at the city Housing Authority apartment where she lives with her mom and her 9-year-old brother."

The software is not, but yes the data you download is ONLY illegal if you copy it to others. Besides, FBI and other agancies know about limewire and are in the process of shuting it down, but it will take a while because limewire is used by millions of people. So might as well use it since FBI know about it.

limewire is not illegal when it was made.. It is just another way on how to share data and other information you might need. The problem though is how people used it. They have used it in an illegal way (atleast for program manufacturers, music companies, movie makers). I am a limewire user and it served and is serving me a lot and in better ways.

the limewire software is legal to have but sharing copyrighted or licensed data on limewire is illegal. But, don't worry unless you excessively downloaded music or videos than you are okay.

nothing illegal about limewire itself. sharing copyrighted materials is against the law in certain countries.
but the most common use of limewire is to share copyrighted music and video. let's face it, there are much simpler methods to share files than limewire.

yes! limewire is legal, but using it to transfering data is not.
Downloading files seems to be ignored by the corps though.
But, allowing upload of files in limewire allowing others to download them seems to be followed up with in court(its rare though)
but they do usually settle for out of court settlements for small amounts

NO, the program is not illegal. Read the F.A.Q. also.
What is illegal is sharing and downloading copyrighted material.
The concept of P2P is a great way to transfer information. Criminals just have taken over.
