You just answered your own question. It is an advertising ploy. Besides, the best answers get chosen. Numerous best answers are also voted on.
I have been looking at some of the "best" answers and sometimes I dont agree, but hey- it was the opinion of the asker.
When i ask a question myself, I choose the well researched answer. If the person who answered my question satisfied all the aspects of my question, in my mind I would think he or she is an expert. Why? because I think he or she is. They may not have a PhD or read gazillions of ancient books but they may have seen and done and experienced whatever I had asked, formatted and worded the answer clearly, sincerely and completely..

You're right, most people on here aren't experts but there are a few that may know a lot about a specific field or they may have answers to random trivia that others may not know.

Anyone who has had some sort of experience in any given category can be called an expert as they have first hand knowledge.

So are you saying you're an expert at spotting people who are not? If anyone asks a question about truck driving I consider myself an expert. Been doing it 16 years...

P&S is the pure entertainment part of Answers. In the other categories you can get very knowledgeable answers. I would consider an expert here as someone who is witty, funny and clever.

My dad used to say "x is an unknown quantity and spirt is a drip under pressure". Never trust an expert.

you wont find many experts in polls and surveys
but you do in Environment of any 0f the sciences
or home & gardens and many more places
people come here to get ahead quickly because it is easy

I suppose they like to make people feel important. This site is sometimes a good jumping off point if you're looking for general information, but I rarely would I make a decision based on something I've read here.
