my hood was shaking and the check engine light came on...when I check the fluids...ATF and Oil both seemd to be close to bone dry. Will adding fluid fix the problem?

just add the oil for now, and worry about the engine damage later.

Check engine light won't come on for fluids. Your ATF fluid couldn't of been bone dry. First you would on noticed slipping before it even got that low. Its hard to see ATF fluid on the dip stick. And remember you check it with the vehicle running unlike oil. Now for your oil it vary well could be that low. Add some oil, but depends how far you drove the damage could already been done if it was extremely low. And that would of caused the check engine light to come on.

Your check engine light probably came on due to some kind of damage to a section of the engine that is monitored by your computer due to you letting the oil get that low. I would take it in to be sure there is no major damage

Adding fluid will fix the 'bone dry' problems, allright.

You probably earned the damage resultant from it though.

If you don't keep your fluids up, you will create many problems.
