Yes
Only that during the cooling process some of the gassed becomes water. There gas and water become the shield of the earth so that the surface will not be burned by the heat of the sun. The air during the day absorbed the heat and circulate the heat during the night.

One thing about the moon of having no life is that it has no atmosphere just like the earth. So during the night the surface of the moon is too hot and during the night it is too cold.

Yet the rock composition of the earth and the moon is still the same

The Moon's lack of Atmosphere prohibits life there.
The materials that make up the moon and the earth are not the same. The moon's density is much less than the earth's. The moon has no iron core and most of the rock seems to be basaltic in nature with a certain percentage of a type of Brescia created by Asteroid impacts.
It is the difference in it's composition when compared to the earth that first led scientists away from the theory that the earth and moon were created from the same gas cloud.

It has been theorized that the composition of the Earth and Moon were once nearly identical, but the Moon's gravity is so small that all the gases (including water vapor) have long since escaped. Maintaining a biosphere on the Moon would require an artificial means of atmosphere retention.

At that distance Earth could grow to be a moon of Saturn, and Saturn could seem approximately 40 circumstances the diameter of the completed moon it may thoroughly dominate the sky. It probable would not rip the Earth look, Saturn already has moons approximately 4 hundred,000km or nearer (the orbit of Earth's moon) and that they are advantageous.

The material is similar, but not identical. The reason for the lack of life on the moon is that it is too small to retain an atmosphere, hence no water.

It's the atmosphere. The moon has no water, and is too small to have a durable atmosphere that could support life.
