I've never been to Barbizon but I have been to John Robert Powers and John Casablancas. Which are similar schools. You can expect to pay anywhere from $900-$2000 total in tuition, depending on what program you put your child in. And after they're done with that program they go to the next one.......there's always a next program. They vary from 2 week summer programs going everyday, to once a week for 5 months in the fall/spring. Anyone with money can attend their programs as they are for confidence and etiquette as well as preparing for modeling/acting careers. However, John Robert Powers is harder to get into the modeling/acting portion as they go by your marketability. And that depends on what goal you have also. If you just want to stay in the local market or go national/international, that would depend also, as the looks and standards are different for both. John Casablancas lets anyone with money in and I'm not sure about Barbizon. The lessons vary from general etiquette, hair, makeup, runway, commercial acting, stage acting, film/tv acting, confidence, speech, clothing. Those are some of the lessons that I've done. There is no upper age limit, however there is a lower age limit. You may want to check how old a child has to be to attend, sometimes it's 5yrs old and sometimes it's 8yrs old. There is no scouting process to attend any of these schools as they are not agencies. The "auditions" they refer you to are open auditions that anybody has access to. They may charge extra money to have you get pictures taken with their photographer or the "photo session" may be included in the price. You will get a master copy of a zed/comp card and a head shot and then you have to go to kinkos to get a bunch of color copies made. You don't get the negatives. They're not racist to anyone and actually are always looking for diversity. The mixed races actually do rather well in this field because it's hard to tell what nationality they are and it keeps people guessing. Also, there is a IMTA (International Model Talent Association) convention every year that these schools participate in. They pick 10 people every year (expenses paid) to go and get seen by agents and scouts. Anybody is allowed to go but they have to pay their own expenses. If you ask, you can get a form to fill out that has the prices listed of what it costs and breaks down the fees to enter the seperate competions they have. This is good for experience. But for $2000 you have to decide if it's worth it. That's what the cost is total for airfare, hotel and entry fees. You don't need it, but if you have the money laying around, it doesn't hurt. Your kid could come back with awards, titles and could possibly be approached by an agent. Also, there are competitions in malls that your child can compete in as well that your school can get them into for a small fee. You may even be able to get your child into local department store fashion shows. Again, it's mainly for experience. That is as far as this "agency" can get you unless you live in a major city. Then you can just audition for a major agency and representation. I do recommend attending a school if you have the means, although you don't have to have it to become a model. You can simply just go to a reputable agency in your area and have them look your child over. A reputable agency will never ask you for a dime! Barbizon is not an agency, neither are any of the schools I listed. They are schools and charge tuition. It's helpful and gives them confidence in their field however, not necessary. So, if you have the money by all means sign them up. But if you're struggling to pay your bills, pass it up because it's not worth it. I hope I answered you questions, even though it wasn't on that particular school. I have spoke with Barbizon and asked them questions before. They're very similar to the others. Good luck.
