/it doesn't make sense that they would attack us because we are free" - and the government takes some of our freedoms away.
Isn't that letting them win?

And OSAMA BIN LADEN, who is probably being kept safe in CIA custody, is making tapes that just happen to say the very things that our government wants them to.

you know that "9/11 conspiracy theories" are very popular in the muslim countries. The muslims know what is going on! How come we don't hear about THAT on CNN or FAUX NEWS?

Thats because they r terrorists and the idea is to terrify the population...so as to convey some f****d tupp msg which is unrelated to the religion itself...this is due to the fact they are influenced by erroneous teachings...whatever Osama or al-qaeda does has nothing 2 do with Islam as a religion. It does not prove a point but only stains the image of this religion.

1. It is harder for them to get to the government officials. They are heavily guarded. The citizens are just going about their lives as best they can under the circumstances. They do target government officials when they can. There have been attempted car bombs aimed at where the officials are.
2. Osama Bin Laden is in CIA custody? Really? That is just stupid on your part. If the CIA had him , Bush would know it and produce him. He could use the political props right now.
3. 9/11 conspiracy theories are popular in Muslim countries, they know what's going on? So, the very people murdering innocent civilians is who you believe about 9/11? This is a sad commentary on your intelligence. Really. Think about how those conspiracy theories help them defeat us by turning public opinion. Use your brain.

Basic military strategy; remember government is only as strong as the support it gets from the population.
If you strike at a military target, or a political target; the citizendry might think it wrong and abhore the action, but as it does not directly effect them they usually put little pressure to affect change.
However if you strike at the citizendry with enough force and ruthlessness, and if you give them a way to stop the action, such as a government policy change, they will soon clamor for the government to conceed and bring about this change.
There is historical support for such an attack all the way back to Hulagu Khan during the Battle of Baghdad in 1258, and similar tactics were even utilized during WW2 (Dresden, Hiroshima, Nagasaki,etc...) where targets of marginal military value were none the less obliterated purely for the shock and potential regime change such a hardship upon the populace might brng about.
It may not be clean, gentlemanly, or honorable; but as a tactic it is historically sound.

Because they are weak, stupid and hope for a Spanish reaction. Western Europe, except for the UK, is weak and withdraws when attacked. This is pretty selfish, it just places the burden of fixing the issue on every other country. The world complains about the US being some kind of world police but they do not step up. Why are people calling for the US to stop the killing in Darfur? Why can't the EU do it?
Putting your head in the sand will not fix the issue, they will attack you again anyway because they know you are weak. Heck even within their own society they are infidels. You have Sunnis attacking Shites in Palestine, Lebanon and Iraq. No one is safe.

They sent a suicide bomber into a meeting of Sunni Sheiks this week and got six of them.
Iraq seems to be ruled far more along sectarian and tribal lines than by the "government" in the Green Zone in Baghdad (though they pick them and their family members off from time to time), so that was a pretty hard hit.
They have a seemingly endless list of reasons to bomb: markets selling alcohol or music or offering haircuts to men; places where those they perceive to be collaborating traitors are signing up for the security services; students and teachers who may be rational and eloquent enough to present alternatives to the battle they propose; funerals where they can kill clansmen of those they have murdered......
They seem to be targeting everybody.

Osama bin Laden professed that U.S. citizens are not innocent of the U.S. government's "crimes" because we are a representative republic, and only the people have the power to elect the representatives who carry-out America's "un-holy" deeds.
Whatever Osama! I guess using his logic, it's ok for us infidels to slaughter all Muslims since they worship the same religion which he thinks calls for our extermination.

Uh. They're terrorists. They terrorize civilians, not military officials or government officials.
The idea is to terrorize the population.

how on earth do we know that it is al qaeda who terrorising the iraqis?do they write their names on the bombs?or did when the bombs blew up it sounds:alqaeda! instead of BOOM!!chances is you'll never know.
it might be the CIA operatives mossads or maybe the marines themselves.the reason:unstable iraq means longer US presence to "stabilize" the country (long enough to suck the oil dry)
the media as proven again and again are not accurate (or pretend to be not accurate).lots of cases where murdered civilians were labelled killed al qaeda fighters.
by the way weren't the US air force intensionally targeted germany and japan's civillians during WW2 by bombing their cities with incendiaries to kill as many civillians as possible to make them surrender?
can we call them terrorists too?
answer:hell no!!they are just trying to win the war!
