Especially now that China has had even more food added to the banned list?
Do we have a right to know where our food is coming from?
*If you didn't know, we just banned 4 types of seafood from China.

Argle, protecting the public isn't socialism, its the purpose of government ;-)
Providing for the public is socialism.

*Argle, again fire and police services are protecting the public. Yes it is a service that is provided but the sole purpose is the protect the public good.
Programs such as medical care, providing housing for the homeless, etc are programs that "provide" for the public.

The fruit that is in most Calif. Markets is from Chile, no flavor because of all the rain there. I mean this is Calif. We grow better fruits and vegetables here. In 1987 the FDA had to recall Chilean fruit because of the high amount of Arsenic. It was farm raised catfish and shrimp that is tainted from China. Also, your property taxes go to pay for fire and police protection. So if the "cat" doesn't pay property taxes we are paying for his protection.

With all of the information slowly filtering through the mass media about the safety of what we are consuming - I say the answer is a resounding YES.
I'm tired of looking at a label and reading "imported" or "distributed" by ABC Foods, Any town, USA.
It says nothing of where the food came from.
Let's get real, antifreeze in tooth paste? Banned chemicals in fish? Poison in pet food?? Some body's asleep at the wheel.

But that might reduce profits going to China. Next you'll want Prescott Bush II to quit supplying them with satellites and missiles.
The administration has ordered (heil!) that such information cannot be put on food products until late 2008 if ever.

Bu bu but - that's socialism. Are you turning into a liberal nick?
* Oh I see. So we can protect the publics health and it's ok, but we can't provide fire and police services? How convenient those two little words are huh? Thanks for the lesson in republican hairsplitting.

I think the FDA is asleep at the wheel. And yes, the food should have labels on it saying where it came from and whether it has weird chemicals in it to make us dead or stupid or both.

I think we should. I think the growth horomones and gmos should be labeled too, as well as getting rid of using the term "natural flavors." We should know what we're eating. We just stuff our faces and we wonder why we become sick and obese.
