The extra-long beds are the norm these days, but you don't have to specially order the sheets in most places. Any store which caters to college students moving into dorms will carry the right sheets. I know places like Bed, Bath and Beyond and Target carry them, and I would guess you can also get them at other standard stores.

Yes, "most" colleges have extra long beds. I wouldn't say bunk beds are the norm though. Lofted beds are becoming more standard now though (it's like a bunk bed, but instead of having the bottom bed, it's just open, so you can fit a desk under and have more space in your room).

You shouldn't need to special order sheets if you go to the store within the next month. Try Linens N things, Bed Bath & Beyond, Walmart, Target, etc.

If you're not sure if your school requires them or not, check out the college website. There should be a page on dorming and residence life. If you can't find anything on the website, you could always give the school a call or ask at orientation.

A lot of the dorms have the extra long twin/bunk beds, but a word of advice from someone that did order from the special store Campus Linens, do not order from them! They cost an arm and a leg and the sheets are super thin, shred after 3 washings, and not at all comfortable! You'd be better to shop at Target or Wal-Mart and save yourself hundreds of dollars and actually have much better linens.

Not necessarily. It really just depends on the college, and the dorm you're staying in. At my school the beds are regular twin beds (no bunks or extra long) in all of the dorm halls. I know at other schools around my area they have extra-long twin beds, some have bunks, some have full size. If you're headed to college this fall, you should try to get in contact with a current student there to find out specifics.

The dorm in which I stayed had xtra long beds. If thats the case with you, you should look into the sheets soon. I have seen the sheets at Target. When summer was almost over, I had a hard time finding them.
