MY wife turned 50 last year, I got her jewelry, went to 5 star restaurant, followed by a play at the Amumson Theater in LA, I had the children plan all but the jewelry and even though it was in the middle of the week - stayed out late, took the next day off and had a wonderful time! Even if she says not to do something special - do not listen - plan well in advance. For the jewelry 2 months while going shopping with her I took her by the jewelry case and casually asked if she could have something - what would it be - got the idea from her she wanted her birthstone in a ring and went and bought it early and hid it until the special night. All went over fantastic!! Cost a small but do-able fortune that was managed in my budget - so Hopes this helps!! Surprise her - they only turn 50 once.

Got a spa nearby? A paid for trip to her favorite salon. Jewelry. A gift certificate to her favorite store. A nice dinner from you, with no dishes for her to do. A massage to follow. A day out with her girlfriends. It is a big deal, so do something sweet. She will love you even more for it.

Gee, a lot depends on your finances. But, you might consider a necklace or pendant with five stones on it...one for each decade. An example is at the below link.
