The most important thing to have around is the number for the doctor and for poison control (1-800-222-1222). 80% of all calls to poison control are for kids under 5. You have listed the only two medications that should be given to a newborn and then only under a doctor's advice. Later you will want Motrin, diaper rash cream (both Destin and A&D), sunscreen, hydrocortisone cream (in case of a contact rash from something), Children's Benadryl (in case of an allergic reaction to something), Neosporin or other antibiotic ointment, and a cabinet full of Bandaids. This stuff should not be used on a newborn but will really come in handy later. Talk to your doctor about what he/she recommends that you keep handy. They aren't really newborn all that long, good thinking to plan ahead and get ready.

Get some saline drops. (You don't need 'special' baby brands, just regular store brand ones do.) That's all you need for now. Infant ibuprofen can't be given until the baby is 6 months old. Any cold or congestion stuff aren't effective (the saline drops help with congestion.) That's it!

I don't think so . I would be very careful not to give a newborn any medicine without the pediatrician's advice because at that age they are so little that you don't know about any possible allergies they may have . I'd hang onto it , though , for future use . Congrats !

Perhaps....

Orajel for when teething starts (you have some time)

Diaper cream (if you consider that a "med")

Other than that... I can't think of anything else I've used on my son, besdies what you've already mentioned, and he's 10.5 months old...
