When a democrat is in office, you hear about all the dems who are corrupt...when a republican is in office, you hear about all the GOPs who did wrong. Lincoln suffered the same fate, so why would it be any different 140 years later?
It isn't the fact that we have basically a bi-partisan system, because there is enough diversity within either party to cover the entire spectrum, it's the fact that American's tend to vote based on popularity and what they read in the press. So much attention is paid to the presidential race, but the real power rests in the Senate and Congress. The president can veto a bill, but the Senate and Congress can over-ride that veto. The president cannot do the same. So, if you want "real" change, start electing Senators and Congressmen who actually show up for the vote, who actually put the well being of the country ahead of their re-election campaign and pork-barrel politics. Don't let them divert your attention to a single scape goat when in fact it is "they" who have failed to correct many of our social, political and economic ills. If you look upon the political landscape and see no one worth voting for...run for the office yourself. If you say "I can't", then you are part of the problem because you must believe that the others who are running are better than you, yet you still talk as if you had all the answers, which means you lack the will or guts to fix the problem.

I hope so, I am in Australia and I'm hoping people will change their votes too. The government is supposed to represent the people but they are always doing exactly what the people don't want.

I would really like the government's everywhere to listen to what their people want coz ultimately if they don't they will lose out.

I hope so, but I think we are still in this war between the libs and conservatives which started with clinton in Jan 93. Neither side seems to want to move forward for the sake of the country, so it is up to the people............who I have no faith in, they are worse than sheep led to slaughter
