the kids are dying to go to the lake I have spent 800 this week trying to get my boat to start, but cant get a spark at plugs or coil I replaced the ecm or ignition amplafier. then the coil then distribtor cap and button, then the the rotory sensor in the ditribtor. so I no have a conpletly new ignition system. with no spark at plugs or coil. when checking voltage the only funny thing I can find is that even though both battres are charged all the way and I have the charger hooked up, with the ignition on at the coil i'm only getting 11.5 volts from the positive post to a ground on the motor but nothing from the positive post to the neg. post on the coil if I check the the neg.post on the coil to a ground on the motor i have continuity between them. at all other power points i'm getting 12 to 13 volts but not at the coil. just 0 frum neg. to pos. yet the neg. post ha a good ground and the pos. post to any other ground then the coil i do get 11,5 volts. thanks for any help. Ben

You should have no grounds at coil on either side .
You may want to check the nuetral safety switch at the Shifter control box

Above are good answers.
Also, does this have a "Kill Switch" you connect a little rope to yourself to kill the boat should you fall away from the wheel? Sometimes just because the cap is on it, it may not work. Cap split or something. Hold the button in by hand and see if it start. Then check the wires on back, one is hot and the other go hot when you push it the button.

once i put my pontoon boat in and couldn't get a spark, so we took it out. after working on it for about forty-five minutes i gave up. the battery was almost dead and i was tired of trying to pull start a 90 horse merc. before we left i asked my wife to try to start it while i watched to see if i could figure out the problem. when she sat down in the captains seat to turn the key on she asked if the little switch under the key was supposed to be on or off. i felt pretty stupid for not checking that first. if your kids have been playing on the boat check the kill switch, if they haven't check to see if a wire is loose on the kill switch. it is a toggle switch that has a cable that is suppose to be hooked to your belt loop in case the driver gets thrown out of the boat, just like if you let go of the handle on a push mower it kills the spark, or if you get off of the seat on a riding mower it will shut off. good luck, scott.

paul's on track. is the safety switch on? trace the wires to it, maybe a mouse chewed through one. check the ignition switch. check the oil cutout switch...down low on the block on the port side aft. maybe you, or someone, grounded one of the black test leads on the harness not realizing what it was. good luck.
