Just remember you want the air to blown down on you in the summer time.

Clockwise in the summer, counter clockwise in the winter. An easy way to remember if you forget is to look at a regular fan blowing and set your ceiling fan to spin that way!

Stay cool!

Lot's of answers:no reasons.
In the summer you want to air blowing over your skin to cool you, have the fans blowing down. In the winter have the fans sucking up, it takes the air across the ceiling and down the walls, it also keeps the windows from fogging up, keeps the condensation off and the windows dry.

simple answer here if you ask your self 2 qquestions.
1 where is the cool air in the summer?
2 where is the heat in the winter?

sumer time get that cold air up off the floor and get that heat moving off the ceiling so it can go thru the ac. CW in summer to suck the cool air up.
Winter- blow that heat down off the ceiling (especially important with cathederal ceilings) to heat up the space. CCW to blow the heat down to where you are.
