You can't go out and open an account in his name alone but I have opened an account at a department store before ( ya know one of those if you signed up for a card today you can get x amount off your purchase today). and signed his name as co- applicant. He's the one with the job. Other financial places won't let you without a POA or him being there.

No, it's not legal, if he will question the charges, he will be ask to do investigation about the signature, and they will start with people who leave in a house. And you can be in big problem, so better tell him, that you use his card, he will found out any way. Good Luck!

what you are talking about can be considered identity theft and fraud since you are applying for a credit card in a name other than yours. I wouldn't do it.

Yes it is. You can sign up in your own name, but not someone else's, including your spouse, unless they also sign the application.
