They are about twice the lenght as they are the height or width, and they seem to be stuck in some type of concrete or something.

No one could really not know the answer to that question. It sounds like someone is just hard-up for a question to ask. Your first responder said what they were. If you doubt that answer try nibbling on those rectangles to see if they have any great taste or nutritional value.

They are called bricks. They are set (stuck together) in something called mortar. Houses are made out of bricks in colder climates.

They are preformed masonry stones. They are dangerous. It is best to take a hammer and chissel and remove them one a time starting on the bottom row and working your way up to the top
