At the end of the series, producers announced that they will continue the story in OVA releases. They never said when or how many of them there will be.

In 2004 Inuyasha was cancelled in Tokyo. All 167 episodes are currently being replayed on Cartoon Network. Because it has been so popular since its american release, earlier this year there was talk about breathing life into the show once again (here the states). But nothing has developed. The magna is still going on and it quite long. There is no end in site, the author seems not to know where to end it. You can also watch the episodes online at tvlinks. Hope this helps!

Due to low ratings and lack of interest in Japan, the series is canceled. There are no plans for any more episodes or movies. Whatever you read or hear about this is JUST A RUMOR! This "ova/movie/new episodes" are all just unsubstantiated rumors from fan-sites. Sunrise nor Viz ever confirmed this and they would be the first to announce anything new. The animators have already moved on to other anime series. The manga is still going on (ch. 511 currently) and I feel that is better than the anime. You should read that!
