The total price of the seven items is $5. So to find the price per item, divide the total price by the number of items.

Dividing 5 by 7 gives you "5/7", or in decimal notation, 0.714285 714285 714285 714285...

So there's no way to have 5/7 of a dollar in an exact amount of cents. The best you can do is round it off to the nearest cent. In this case, $0.71. That's the approximate price per item. Notice that 7 times this number is $4.97 which isn't exactly $5 but again we're forced to use approximations here.

If you were to buy 7 items like this individually, you'd be paying less than if you bought all 7 at once for the flat price of $5. So when stores sell items in this way they'll usually increase the individual price by a cent so that they don't lose any money from it.

about $ 0.71 each apple.

divide 7 into 5, since 7 is greater than five your answer is less than 1 than check it by multi. 0.71 x 7 = 4.97
