you need to have you transmission checked.... sounds like a troque converter.. but also check this out.. since the late 80s the automatice transmissions have what you call an electronic modulator valve.. on a front wheel drive machine.. you probably have too pressure switches.. one is for the modulator valve that makes your tranny shift smoothly.. the other is the locking mechanism.. that switch can go bad and cause your tranny to possibly delay responding.. or cause it lock up.. simply put..if it goes bad.. it will not allow the tranny to work properly.. to find out if it that switch.. if you have front wheel drive.. open the hood.. and look for the transaxel set up.. usually it is on the driver side.. there is an electric wire set up containing two wires that plugs into the front of the transmission.. unplug it.. it won't hurt anything.. just un plug it and see what happens.. if it takes off imediately the way it is supposed to do.. then you can probably drive it that way for the next ten years without a problem.. but if you have the money go ahead and get it fixed..only do it a privately own transmission shop.. the switch is about 240 bucks or so and the labor is about 200... if you unplug the switch and it does not change the trannys action.. then plug it back in and call a private shop and ask them their advice.. good luck

If the fluids level is OK, then its either the clutch packs or the torque converter. Either way, the tranny will have to come out.

Well the truth is there are probably alot of things that could be wrong, and the best thing would probably be just to take it to an honest mechanic (if you can find one) but another thing it could be is a clogged up fuel filter.
