that would depend on the condition of it,in most cases on those its better to replace it,you cant go out and buy a real good vehicle for what it will cost you to repair that one,but its still your choice, you know the vehicle better than any of us do but if it was mine id repair it ,that's better than going back in debt again, good luck hope this helps.

I never use the blue book thought when spending big bucks repairing my vehicles. That is just plain cheap. Think about this: Do you like having a car payment? Other than the transmission, does the engine run okay? Do you wanna buy another persons lemon vehicle? Since the vehicle is less than ten years old its probably still in good shape. I agree with the other answerers who said $2,800 dollars is pretty steep for a transmission. My advise is to shop around.

at $2800 you're being ripped off for the tranny job. Make some phone calls and get a second opinion. Check bbb.com (Better Business Bereau) for the transmission shops in your area. See if any of them have unresolved complaints on file. If they do, find another shop.

Unless it has great sentimental value to you you are just starting to face a series of high expenses that will make it impractical to keep throwing money at that car. Now is a time to bail out before you need the engine replaced and the body duct-taped back together. Sooner or later it is not going to pass a safety inspection and you will suddenly find yourself without a usable vehicle.

Wow...I don't think a 8 year old car is worth that much...make sure it's a new blue book...
Anyway, depends on whether you like the car and have the money. Personally I would just go for a new car if it gives you lots of problems.

Well my dad knows somethings about cars and my cousin's transmission has went out on it and my Dad told him that getting a new transmission is risky, my advice is to get is repaired. Good luck to you.

you are looking at the blue book wrong, it is worth 7200 in top shape not with the transmission out. with the trans out you are looking at somewhere around 2500-2800 dollars for your SUV

just depends if you want to dish out the money for a new car. 2800 to fix it is still cheaper than what you would probably pay on another car. and if nothing else is wrong with it, it could still give you a few more years. just depends what you want to do

This is going to be a matter of personal choice to some degree; but, the overall best decision would be to purchase something smaller that gets better gas mileage and try to drive more sensibly.

i don't know where you are, but for $750 bucks you can get a rebuilt tranny with a shift kit. 2 hours, a buddy, and a floor jack and your rolling again.
