If it's a good car in every other way and you plan on driving it for a while longer, I'd get it repaired. But if you want something newer, take a loss on the Suburban and buy a new vehicle.

If you can afford it I would buy a new car. I've replaced transmissions because I didn't have the finances for a new car but would have been better off in the long run using that transmission money as a down payment.

Blue book is what the dealer will most likely sell it for. If you want blue book your going to have to sell it your self. Also, bear in mind that if your transmission is gone that will lesson $$$ the dealer will want to pay you anyway.

You'll never get "blue book" for it.... that's just a dealer ASKING price.... and no one pays asking price.... plus SUVs are not good sellers at the moment because of gas.....

Realistically, it is worth less than the $7200, so factor that in....

Instead of shelling out big money for a car that is depreciating anyway, if you can afford it, I would just cut my losses and buy a new one.
