Sorry but Rice just doesn't have the stats - maybe 100 more HRs and 300 more RBI and 3000 hits would get the job done. Plus, Rice was plagued by injuries towards the end.

I'm sure Jim Rice and his fans ask this every year around December/January ?? The main reason i see that Rice isn't already in the HOF is because his career is over shadowed by two other Red Sox HOF'ers that kind of shadowed his career, IE Carl Yaztremski and Wade Boggs. Rice also played along side the more popular Fred Lynn and Dwight Evans and was not very friendly with the press. I believe 2008 could and should be the year Rice, Gossage, and Blyleven eventually join the ranks of the greatest that this game has ever seen .

Rice is pretty closely lined up behind Santo, Hodges, Oliva, and other "really, really good but not quite great" hitters who are still standing on the other side of the velvet rope. His fast fade did him no favors.
I think he would look good on a plaque but that the Hall is not suffering from his absence.
Oh, and Santo deserves in. Not the other guys, really, but he does.

I don't think he'll ever be voted into the MLB HOF. He didn't get his # retired by RED SOX. Most people outside of New England couldn't tell you what team he played for or his position. I liked Jim Rice, but he's not HOF material. Sorry.

It's all up to the preference of the voters for each particular year. Quite possibly could be a matter of time; guess we'll just have to wait and see how it pans out.

Until Pete Rose is in the HoF, who cares, it has no legitimacy.

Because he has not had enough voter's vote for him.
