Any time I want to challenge someone on something they said, I always tell them to "cite your sources." I know they will throw that back at me, so I never make a statement without some facts to back it up.

As a general rule, I usually like to have some sort of facts to back up what I say. I try to let the facts shape my opinion and not my opinion shape the facts.

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. I don't have to have anything to back it up though, since it's my opinion. Now, if I said something like "The US economy sucks" I would have to have something to back it up, or I would get destroyed in a debate. But, if I said I prefer chocolate ice cream over vanilla, I don't need any back up, because I just do. No reason, I just prefer the taste.

Sometimes I've done some homework about the subject.
Sometimes it's just common sense.

Not normally but I try to win the argument (which it always turns into) by faking my way through it.
