Yes. I'm Gen Xer, and I can see the changes.
My grandparents know how to save money, and only use a credit card for emergencies, not Happy Hour.
They know and have abided by the common sense rule of driving slower to save gas. Cars were bought new and driven into the ground. Now we buy cars as often as we buy cell phones.
They never used paper towel, Swiffers, paper plates and plastic forks like we do. A new coffee cup every day is wasteful. The amount of waste we create now is incredible.
They stuck out the rough times in marriages. A no fault divorce was unheard of. Colorado Springs has one of the highest divorce rates in the US, even though it's a high Republican population. It's a military city, and when soldiers are overseas infidelity creeps in. Boulder, Colorado is a Democratic city and they have a low divorce rate, but it's because they just don't marry. If you just live with someone, it's a break-up, not a divorce. Either way family values are fading.
My grandparents have always made presents, I've never received store bought junk from them. Quilts and necklaces are now heirlooms. They taught me how to make ice cream, peanut brittle, divinity, and taffy. I will always have those memories and skills. If we had gone out for ice cream I probably wouldn't remember the trip.
Finally, they have wisdom. They were young and sexual during the 40's when life just flew by, but they were modest. If you got pregnant you got married or had the baby discreetly. It wasn't a show. They realized how hard being a single parent could be. Equal rights for women is a wonderful idea, but so are two parent families.
They've seen war, and they know how to fight to win. Starting with the Korean War the government stopped fighting to win, they tried to be political and not loose.
They raised children and grandchildren who weathered the 60's and 80's that were plagued with drugs. They really know more than we give them credit for. America will fall.

I don't think so. I've seen enough young people with fire in their bellies to believe there is some hope. By the way I dissagree with this "greatest generation" baloney.
As for the depression it was the result of speculation, made worse by socialist politicians and the worst drought and highest heat on record. Hotter than it is now. WW2 was a major accomplishment but, they left the Soviets in place and turned China over to Mao. Because they sympathized with the communist. As a result over 100,000,000 people were killed during the last century by their socialist governments.
The final result of all their accomplishments is that we were locked in a cold war with the soviets for over 40 years, Which also produced the North Korean problem we have now. Bottomline is they left us a pretty good mess to clean up on the world stage and the main reason our military is stretched thin is the over 100,000 troops stationed in Korea, Japan and Germany.
And lets not even get started on the socialist security mess they left behind. Their children the baby boomers are in for a rude awakening when they start to retire over the next few years.
They aren't the greatest generation they are the gimme generation, always looking for government to solve all their problems. OK I'm ranting.

It is very likely that the "Greatest Generation" is the one that the Bible says will not pass away before the events in Revelations come to pass.
The WW2 generation saw the USA at the height of it's power and most of the rest of the world devastated.
For a good understanding of where we are in prophecy today please go to the following sites the information contained in them is vital:

America is built on hard work, dependance, a certain amount of pride, and good solid families. I don't believe America will fail although we will have lost some of the most dedicated and honored heros this country has ever seen.
Think about it though, there are new heros rising every day for us. We have soldiers oversees right now giving their lives for this country.
America is in the middle of a movement that has not been seen for many many years. That movement is a focus on the family, family values, and american pride.
Our industry has suffered but we are now looking to increase our american made brand.
We won't fail as a nation if we continue down a path of regeneration of our American values.

Where have you been? America has been falling for years, and rising in some ways!
Solid Material Volume wealth is going to fade away. People will be attached to personal security and their IPOD communicators or like devices. It is becoming a whole new world out there. Soon the IPODs will become transporters too. You will only have one change of clothing and knowledge will become common.

honestly, i dont see American being the number one country in the world until the end of time. I'm an American of course, but something will happen. Look at Rome, Greece, Britain, Russia, and Germany. At one time they were the number one country in the world and something happened: America. I feel like one day, some country will surpass us. Maybe not any time soon, but id say within the next 50-100 years. Just my opinion.

america is already in a freefall. let's face it the character and quality of ppl that are taking the place in history of the greatest generation are lacking in many ways. they do not have what it takes to lead or sacrifice because they came from the 'me' generation....everything was all about what they wanted, what was best for them and their needs. too long have they been chasing the almighty dollar, the big house, the fancy cars, the toys etc. they don't consider anyone but themselves, consider their children...selfish, mean spirited little twerps who have everything but still complain they have nothing. its scary to think that the future of this nation lies on the shoulders of todays adults and in a few years their lazy and selfish spawn will take over. if you think i am being too harsh then just look around, yes there are some good and decent ppl in this nation but the majority have no concept of what the idea of 'greater good' means. i know, i am of that adult generation that is now in charge and i see it everyday. abandoning their children to pursue their own selfish desires and wants. its criminal and its time 'adults' of my generation grow up and quit trying to act like they are 17 again.

Most of them have already passed away.
America will not fall when they do. It will just be different.
personally, now is the time to talk to them, find out what life was like for them, since we will never again live as they did or experience the same things.
