Chaps keep the road crap off my jeans, and protect my legs from the cold wind blast. Leather pants are something I would never be caught in, dead or alive. Life is not a stage.
I've had two wives and a passle of kids, don't give a hoot about "macho". Don't need to. I'm good enough as I am, and it doesn't matter who doesn't like it.
Have you ever ridden a Sportster? I haven't, but I wouldn't hesitate at the chance.

time was, back in the 60's, the sportster was the killer bike to own. then you had to be someone to ride one!
chaps keep the wind off. nothing breaks up the wind like good leather. and if you have to fall down, leather can save your hide better than denim or cotton.

i'd wear chaps before i'd even think about wearing leather pants. u couldnt even give me a set of those; those have 'i'm a gay boi' written all over them. and as far as the sportster issue.......u have a jealousy streak the size of an aircraft carrier. they're a fun bike to ride.

Im not crazy about Chaps ,but keep a Half pair in my Saddle Bags and they have kept my pants dry on many Long Rainy nights . Best thing I ever bought was one of those Leather face mask to keep that stinging rain off my face / You can pretty much tell whos wearing them for what reason/Peace

Some of us use them to keep the legs warmer, the rocks, bugs and rain off pant legs.

It should be mandatory for all sportster pedalers to wear yellow raincoats .........a safety issue of course.
