All it would take is the eruption of one supervolcano. The ash that would be blown up into the atmosphere would darken the world and make it impossible for anything to grow on the earth. Scientists studying Yellowstone National Park state that we are overdue for the volcano there to erupt again. It has erupted two or three times before, and measuring the intervals between eruptions, they think all the signs are there that it's getting ready to blow again. You can't worry about things like this too much, though. None of us know when our last day will be.

There are definately 2 paths being walked today one is the path of enlightenment, the other is the path of distruction. The conclution of life on earth will be due to one of these paths getting there first. The first saves the earth the second destroys the earth. Both bring about an end to pain suffering and death as far as our father/supreme consciousness, is concerned. He will go on forever regardless of life on earth.
As for how the end will come: It seems more likely to me that if the distructive forces of ignorance continue to behave and live in the selfish way of chasing the pleasures of the senses, then the ozone layer will finally give out. The forces keeping it steady and together will reach max and the whole lower heavens, our atmosphere will drop out from around us. (Like a bubble finally bursting!) This will expose us fully to the power of the sun, and as you may or may not know, the sun has the power of many millions of atomic explosions heading our way on a moment to moment basis. Without an atmosphere we would be blown apart, possibly within a blinking of an eye! All atomic particals, seperated and disintegrated in a nano second. All physical matter would become just a dust cloud in the outer heavens, (space).
I see this way happening and I pray it is this way and not the long drawn out 24 hr period of the planet burning up as the sun begins to set what is left of the earth alight due to this hole in our sky.
Only consciousness would survive, but for how long, would be dependent on how well one's know the self. Also, if there was another place for idividual consciousness to exist in another physical reality. All spirit realities being of no purpose to God/ Supreme consciousness. All past spirit realities being solely for the purpose of helping and understanding what this life on earth was really about.

Chances are if we have all that kind of volcanic activity we will have first had an impact from a very large meteor/asteroid, such as the one that impacted in the late Cretaceous, most likely triggering a mass extinction. The impact alone is going to cause a big heap o' problems.
Who's to say it won't happen again? There are people who track PHAs (potentially hazardous asteroids) all the time

I asked the same thing, but there are really low chances, like surviving from a 30,000 feet in freefall... BUT there is a chance that a supervolcano in USA will cause destruction to half of the US...
There are other means of ends, such as biological weaopons, war, time, and... you know the rest...
