I have no idea - but I'd bet their reason changed several times.

Wow, Larry. I guess you would call me a "neocon." So will you allow me to tell you how I view the Sermon on the Mount?
Or would you like to project your opinions onto a whole bunch of people you do not even know?
Personally, I believe Jesus was speaking to Pharisees (people who thought they could achieve perfection some other way but grace). He is also speaking to each of us. Individually. To our hearts. Telling us to not judge others, because we have been saved by grace, not any works of our own...
The pharisees somehow believed they had achieved the law. Perfection, because they followed the letter of the law. A common human error.
Jesus gave us a higher law: The Spirit of the law... Which is why the Bible is a 2-edged Sword.

Sir,
The "neo cons" did not send our army into Iraq. America sent the army into Iraq. I recall there was a debate and a vote and congress were nearly unanimous in the decision. Each and every one of us was represented.
The American troops are not killing women and children in Iraq. The terrorists are deliberately targeting schools, hospitals, police stations, markets, bus stations and anywhere else Iraqis congregate. Our brave military are laying their own lives on the line to protect Iraqi civilians.
If your concern is truly Iraqi women and children, what do you think will become of them if America abandons them?

Bush is a born again Christian he spoke with God, God told him go to war with Iraq and kill people. Now if women and children get in the way that is called collateral damage.

We didn't go to Iraq to kill women and children ... we went to prevent terrorists from killing ours.
Our brothers who have laid down their lives for yours didn't go to Iraq so their cheeks would not be turned, they went so yours wouldn't. Men have died in Iraq fighting for your life ... and even for your right to criticize their defense of you.
