I keep hearing a very stirring, and forceful operatic piece used in many movies, but I have no idea what it is called! I do know that it is Verdi, and I suspect it is fairly famous, but that's all the info I've got. If anyone could help me out, that would be lovely! :)

It's probably the Requiem. If I had to guess which part it would probably be Dies Irae, or Day of Wrath. See if you can find a CD of it in a library or download a copy.

Too generic. Is that a choir, a single singer, male, female, a duet ...
The easiest is, when you hear it in a film look for info on the film, the title of the music will no doubt be there. Many are the film tracks inspired to Verdi, whose name is by the way Giuseppe with e.

yes it is important to know- is it a man singing, a woman, or a choir? Other famous and often used Verdi opera choruses are "Va, pensiero" from Nabucco and the Anvil Chorus from Il Trovatore. If it is a choir piece- try listening to these two (or any of the other clips- other famous Verdi opera choruses)

It's most likely the "Triumphal March" from Aida, Verdi's most famous opera. It's very stirring and used in many movies.

The most stirring aria currently popular is "Nessun Dorma" from Turandot by Puccini. Check here to see if that is what it is http://youtube.com/watch?v=RdTBml4oOZ8

I don't recall any particular Verdi aria used frequently in movies. The two most often heard (I think) are "Libiamo" from "La Traviata" and "La Donna e Mobie" from Rigoletto:

in the middle of the night a roommate woke me up to identify music in a movie as Ballo in Maschera (the Leontyne Price, Reri Grist, Shirley Verrett, Carlo Bergonzi recording)

If thats not possible, look one of the movies up on the web and it will tell you there. Good luck
