Liberals say illegals are doing jobs Americans "just won't do". Really? Then let's stop handing out welfare. Maybe Americans will be more motivated to take those jobs.

First of all, Social Security is *not* a 'give-away' program. Anyone who works pays into Social Security through deductions from each paycheck. The money a person gets from Social Security is his own money, with interest, as if it had been put in a bank. It was developed at a time when most women did not work, and were left destitute when their husbands died. It has relieved a lot of extreme poverty. The exceptions to the basic guidelines are made for handicapped people who cannot earn a living for themselves.
Temporary Assistance/Medicaid (aka 'Welfare') is a *temporary* program designed to help people get back on their feet and into useful professions after economic setbacks in the area, or personal/family problems, or lack of education, and so on. When managed properly, it can help a lot of people straighten out their lives and become self-supporting. Unfortunately, there is a certain percentage of people who feel that the world owes them a living and try to work the system to their advantage; however, there are special investigations units that keep an eye out for these characters, and many people do go to jail for welfare fraud.

Either everyone is worthy of participation in a democracy or you have to have genicide if you think it has to produce a profit. The profit is gonna get squeezed out if the spending population is dwindled down. It won't matter what you have for sale, it won't sell if there is no money available to buy! No jobs, no money. We have to invent new jobs in the learning of ways to develop information and pay people to stay involved and get people involved....and not just college people. You can call it welfare or whatever you want. If it does not happen, you have a revolution on your hands from the people who don't have what others do have in mass.
Government jobs and Corporate jobs, high paying that are given to religious attachment are no better than the welfare system.

Dear, Social Security isn't a "give away" program - one pays into it (check out your paystub - that FICA "guy" is the one) every payday for their career until they reach the max amount.
I don't necessarily think any of the supplemental programs are "bad". True - there are those that scam it, but far more actually need it and use it the way it was intended to be used than rip off the system.

I think what's worse is private firms giving away money, trips, favors, etc, for legislation that benefits that particular public firm, benefits the legislator with the goodies, and punishes the rest of us.
That's worse, by far.
What kind of wacko are you to imply that welfare is a bad thing? A country that won't take care of it's most unfortunate won't remain a country for long.

Welfare is worse if they are abusing it. Social Security is so hard to get , that I bet it weeds out a lot. I resent being told ss is like welfare. I worked many years to get it and had to fight for 2 years to get it. I had no choice.

To a certain degree social security is earned while welfare is an unearned entitlement. Welfare has the unintended tendency of creating a society of people dependent upon government hand-outs.

Social security a person generally pays pays into, where as welfare a working person pays into and most of the time don't get to receive any of it.

Most welfare in our country goes to the very rich. That is bad welfare. Good welfare is when it goes to poor people who need it. That's the way Jesus wanted it.
