how do you get the pee smell out?

We are getting ready to move into my mom's house. While she lived there, she had a small dog that had a big bladder and he peed on the carpet up stairs alot, and on the carpet going up the stairs. We pulled out the carpet and padding, but the hardwood underneath STILL smells of urine. What can I do to get the awful smell out? It didn't stain the floors underneath, but it still smells very strong.

Try cleaning with vinegar. Since the pee made its way into the floor, the only way to really get rid of the smell is to get a new floor. Since that can be a bit pricey, vinegar is good and cutting SOME of the smell. One thing that works good for pee in carpets and it might work for hardwood floors is to sprinkle baking soda on the floor before using the vinegar. Really sprinkle it on. Sweep it around, making sure it sifts down into the cracks. Then pout vinegar over that. The chemical reaction between the baking soda and vinegar will make it bubble. The bubbles may actually help push up some of the pee molecules up out of the floor to get mopped away.

I just faced this issue when reflooring my condo. I did my best to clean the wood, then let the wood dry thoroughly... then I covered the floor in an oil based primer/ stain and odor blocker. Kilz makes one that's not to spendy and works really well to seal in odors.

If you aren't planning on putting new flooring over those hardwoods, you may try some products available at pet stores made specifically for removing odor in hardwood floors.

Refinishing and giving a coat of polyurethane varnish is also an option.

The best thing I have used on pet urine is Simple Green cleaner. It smells great and takes stains out of the carpet, cuts grease. You can find it in the automotive section at Walmarts.

There is a product called Zero Odor. I have had really good success with it. My friends didn't but my vet assistant friend says that has to do with the PH in the urine not the product's effectiveness. I would try it.

use the item on the bottom in link then cover it up with carpet and then put the carpet fresh on top of that once a week and it should be smelling great not nasty

You need a product called "simple solutions" you can get it at any pet store, it is an enzyme that removes the odor, follow the instructions on the bottle perfectly, it will eliminate your problem.

I use some stuff called Four Paws Wee Wee. It's super strength odor remover. I bought it at a pet store. It works really well when my dogs have accidents. Hope that helps.

in case you're nicely hydrated (drink a super number of water) your pee shouldn't sniff all that a lot. counting on what you eat and drink, your pee can scent surprisingly sturdy. Drink greater water.

White vinegar will help to neutralise the smell,just apply with a spray bottle.(don't use brown vinegar as it will stain).
