It seems that way. Or maybe alot of people are just bad spellers and the internet is just allowing us to observe it. You would think being on the pc for hours each day would actually help a person to spell better but I guess not.

This answer will rate as an opinion. I don't believe that the internet has created bad spellers, but rather brought them out of the wood-work, a little like turning off the light and all the roaches running out only to be scared back by the return of the light. Turn off the spell check feature and you will see even more bad spelling, but I feel that IM has actually caused more damage to the english language than the internet, per se. Too many people seeking short cuts to conversation level texting will often cause persons to utilize personalized short hand and that causes spelling to be a secondary consideration. Again, let me say that this is my opinion.

They all seem to be on Yahoo answers too. I don't see any need to type at a keyboard the same way you text message. Criminy, spell it out and use a spell checker. Firefox has a fine spell checker built in that works anywhere.

Yes, in a sense because people do not read anymore. The Internet, television, and video games, etc. do not encourage problem solving and the fundamentals of grammar and syntax that were once learned through reading and writing (literally...no pun intended!).

Yup.
No one is doing spelling in school anymore because of the spell check. This is some times what you'll see in a test.

"Iv desided to becom more indepentent of my parants howse rools. Im ateen now, and deeserv more freedums."
Go figure.

yeah, pretty much - however maybe not in the way you think.

i think the texting on phones caused this. while my spelling isn't all that great, i found i can't spell when i write things down physically.

on a different note - places like this: causes people to stop thinking for themselves. everything is asked here and like they can't decide this stuff for themselves?

No. It has merely revealed them. Cellulite laden legs are ugly but out of mind until they are pranced about on a crowded beach. Then we all gag. Right?

Yes, becasue we now abbreviate EVERYTHING and normally what we abbreviate are the long, hard to spell words.

Yes. But it has done wonders for the letter Z:
Haz (has), duz (does), wuz (was).
