Easy. The earliest Christians were Jews. They were trying to have a revolution to overthrow the Roman Empire's occupation of Israel. The word was spread among the Jews far and wide to try and get enough of them fired up and armed enough to overthrow the Roman Empire's occupation. Jesus actually wasn't even worshipped AS a god until the Council of Nicea in 325 A.D. (convened BY Constantine) decided that Jesus actually WAS God... so Jesus "became God" in 325 A.D., and not before.
