I've working as a bus girl for this job for almost a year. You'd think the barriers of being shy would slowly fade away, but I still tend to get nervous and give off this awkward impression and now that I'm going to work as a waitress that level just increases to a 'woah' standard. Sheesh, anybody have some way to cool down my apprehension for this? Oh my, how I pray everything turns our for the best.

Congratulations that you got the waitress position!! YOU as the waitress 'are' the restaurant!! so as others have said, SMILE SMILE SMILE....pretend all your customers are good friends, and treat them that way!!......and when it comes time to order dessert, don't ask if they want it, just say, "and for dessert, I have........" AND if you are to promote or push a certain dessert, mention it LAST....ex; "We have cherry pie, apple pie, and chocolate cake" (the cake was what they wanted you to push that day!!...people tend to remember the last thing they heard!!!!!!!!!!!!! sounds funny, but it works!! concentrate on the other person at all times and you will feel a lot less self-conscious!! good luck!!!

Rule #1. Don't be afraid of the customers. Paste a big smile on your face whether you like it or not. Be polite whether you like it or not. It's a somewhat easy job if you're dedicated. Keep all the drinks refilled, check back on them, you've seen the servers in action, you know what to do. Are you going to be shadowing another server for a day or two? You'll get the hang of it. Be confident!

Pretend every customer is your grandma (or some other older person you love and respect) and you'll be fine.

Just remember to smile and the mantra of all waitresses,
"This day will end and they can't take away my birthday"

Good luck to you and be kind to that new bus girl.

Flirt with the chef, take it easy. remember the customer is paying you money to look after them, so they like you already. Don't feel you need to prove anything to them.
