Chris Benoit achieved legendary status in the ring for his impeccable technical skills and attracted legions of devoted fans. However, his legacy will be forever marred because his violent and controlling nature, not roid rage, ultimately results is the brutal demise of himself and his family.
The preconceived notion that this tragedy is a result of roid rage is a theory with many flaws. This was clearly a pre-meditated act perpetrated by Chris Benoit.
The timeline of the events clearly supports this theory. Chris ties his wife’s ankles and wrists and then chockes her to death with an electrical cord on Friday. On Saturday, he then slaughters his son by applying a choke hold. There is a substantial time frame between the murders of both subjects. Roid rage is characterized by MD Gary Wadler as a “form of loss of impulse control”. Roid rage of a magnitude so immense that it would drive Chris to bury his wife “six feet under” is behavior that warrants the immediate murder of his son which is not the case.
In addition, Chris places bibles beside each of the murdered subjects which is definitely not an indication of roid rage. The placement of the bibles are an outward manifestation of his compassion for both subjects. It appears as if he is calling upon God to protect their souls and bring them to heaven. Another notable observation is that Chris does not place a bible beside himself when he commits suicide which implies that he believes his soul should be raped in the pits of hell for his actions. This clearly demonstrates how Chris is not blinded by roid rage because he is exhibiting behavior that is indicative of lingering guilt within his conscience.
Further concrete evidence to support this theory is that Chris text messages his co-workers with unorthodox messages with the intent of leading officials to the crime scene. He discloses his full address and information regarding the entry of his property. “The dogs are in the enclosed pool area. Garage side door is open,” wwe.com. In addition, he recites some bible phrases and discusses details regarding his will. This demonstrates how Chris is in a rational frame of mind and that the murders were undoubtedly pre-meditated.
Chris’ violent and controlling nature are the rudimentary cause of the demise of himself and his family.
One must note that Chris has a predisposition towards violence and a controlling nature. In divorce papers filed in 2003, Chris’ wife requests legal protection from him stating that Chris "lost his temper and threatened to strike the petitioner and cause extensive damage to the home and personal belongings of the parties, including furniture" tmz.com. In addition, his wife states that she was, "in reasonable fear for petitioner's own safety and that of the minor child" tmz.com.
Prior to the tragedy, Chris and his wife had many disputes regarding the rearing, schooling and care of their son Daniel. Daniel had fragile-x syndrome which is an inherited condition characterized by mental retardation and is the most prevalent cause of autism. His wife may have decided to take bold actions (specifics may be revealed in later reports) that Chris did not embrace. Given his predisposition towards violence and his controlling nature, it is plausible that the dominant stance taken by his wife regarding Daniel may have compelled him to eliminate his wife for fear of losing the power struggle. The time interval between the deaths of his wife and son indicate that there is an internal conflict within him as he contemplates whether or not Daniel would be able to rehabilitate from the emotional and mental scars that would be inflicted upon him from losing both parents as Chris knows he will most definitely be imprisoned for murdering his wife. He decides to place his son’s soul in the hands of God rather then permit his son to endure the hardships that surely await. Ultimately, he succumbs to immense guilt and hangs himself.
In conclusion, the violent and controlling nature of Chris Benoit ultimately results in his downfall. Roid rage is merely a veil utilized to conceal the inherent darkness of Chris Benoit’s character.

Fragile X is not a cause of autism and is not that common at all. It is also not characterized by mental retardation.

Who even knows for sure that he killed his wife. He could've come home and found his wife murdered and was not able to handle it so before killing himself he killed his son so he would not be left alone. Who the hell knows. That Investigator Scott Ballard couldnt answer any of the questions he was asked so i dont know if i'd beleive that he would really look into the case rather than just blaming it on some steroid juiced up evil wrestler. Yeah the media will love that wont they. By the way i thought that the three hour tribute to chris benoit was the closest thing to an act of class that the wwe has ever displayed because lets face it none of us knew chris benoit the man who supposedly killed his wife and son but all of us knew the wrestler chris benoit who gave us 22 years of his life and countless unforgettable matches. The least the WWE could've done was show a tribute. If anything they should replay the tribute to benoit and his family every monday night fo a month. RIP chris, nancy and daniel
My sincerest condolences go out to both families

I know, that is truly heart breaking. Who knew such a great man had so many problems and no one tried to help before it was too late. I really like your essay. It's very good. I wrote one too. Here you can read it:
Chris, Nancy, and son Daniel Benoit were all found dead on Monday, June 25, 2007. Police are investigating this as a double-murder suicide.
Investigators have reported on Friday, June 22, Chris Benoit bound and strangled his wife Nancy.
Over the weekend, Benoit smothered his 7 year old son Daniel with a wrestling move called the "sleeper's hold." He then hung himself in his weight room.
On Monday, June 25, the police found the three bodies. They believe steroids and depression may have played a major role in the double murder-suicide of the Benoit Family.
The pressure of his son's diagnosis, which scientists can only refer to as Fragile-X Syndrome, also may have been what forced Benoit to "snap" in such a monstrous way.
People who knew him best say that he struggled for years to cope with his son's disease, but refused to talk about with anyone, even his own parents.
Police have recently found that Chris injected his son with steroids. It is possible to conclude that he thought the human growth hormones would make him larger, as Daniel was an incredibly small, short child.
Investigators are currently waiting for the toxicology reports to come back to continue their investigation. They may take several weeks to return.
Many pyschologists have said that Benoit may have believed that by killing his family, he was protecting them from the pain and humiliation associated with Daniel's disease.
Daniel was supposed to start school in the fall, and by being there, other people may have found out about his Fragile-X Syndrome.
In his mind, Benoit may have thought killing him would make him a better father. He may have thought he was protecting him from unknowing eyes.
Or, quite possibly, he had snapped, and had no reason for killing his 7 year old son and wife. Maybe, just maybe, he killed insanely, and had no rational thoughts.
Whatever was going through his mind at the time, no one knows. What investigators do know, however, is that justice must be served to the Benoit family.
The only way they know how to do that is to get to the bottom of this case, and figure out who really did this to the Benoit family.
WWE could only offer their condolences to the family of Nancy Benoit, and their sincerest apologies for airing a three-hour tribute to the 40-year old wrestler. They have stated they had no idea that Chris was behind the brutal murders.
My heart goes out to Nancy's and Chris's families. What a tragic way to die. May their souls rest peacefully in Heaven.
It's gonna take a long time to get over this and move on. I am devastated. It's definitley a shock to wrestling fans everywhere.

Ok guys here we go. Chris is to blame for what he did that day yes. But does anyone know how sick that man was the day he killed his wife, child and himself???
This was in our Sunday paper. Go look at it and learn the real reason why this man turned on that day. Did you ever know how bad this man was over Eddie Guerrero dieing??? Did you know that he never got over his best friends death. Go look at the site to find out more.
For another note it says this...,
"Chris' closest friend in the world was Eddie Guerrero," Alvarez said. "He could cry to him. He could tell him everything. After Eddie died, I talked to Chris. He was a broken man."
It goes on to say that after Johnny Grunge had died that it was about this period of time that people stared noticing weird behavior, paranoid behavior, which would indicate (Benoit) was using a lot of drugs. He was alone. He was on th road a lot, having to perform at a high level, having to look a certain way. Then this guy Alvarez (a man that has followed Chris for a long time) says that "I think the drug use escalated, and his whole world basically fell apart."
To me it seems that this was a very broken man that just cracked one day. Just my recollection is this man was very sick and heartbroken. I know that it doesn't justify what he done that day but maybe you can see what had lead him to what he did.

I miss Chris very much. Not because of what everyone that rated him but because of the man I saw. I can remember him wrestling with the four horseman in WCW and so on so I have watched him for a long time. It's a sorrow that I feel inside because this man was so sick that day he probably never knew what was going on. Will miss you Chris. I copied this from our local newspaper and the site listed above.

Roid rage? heh.
I said this many times and I'll say it a million times if I have to.
Leave the growth helping steroids aside (and remember, whatever drugs were found inside their home was all prescribed, nothing illegal).
I understand that it is an act of evil and unforgivable. But before we get to conclusions. Everyone must know, that, Eddie and Chris had a lot of enemies and people who were jealous of their success. When Eddie passed away, Chris had to fight his nightmares alone. If it really was a double-homicide suicide case, then here is the explanation. Instead of someone killing Daniel, Nancy and himself by some randomly hired a55hole, he did it himself. But what he did was wrong. Just take it that way. And let them all rest in peace. We still have Megan and David Benoit who will have something to say.
So nobody knows what happened and nobody has the right to judge Chris or his actions. Cause we simply have no idea.
Mrs. Nancy and Daniel Benoit passed away within Saturday and Sunday (where he didnt show up for the VENGEANCE ppv). And Chris hanged himself early on Monday. The police were able to get inside their homes at 2:30pm on Monday to find the disastrous crime scene.

The fact is that you never know what people are thinking. Just because Chris was a great wrestler doesn't mean he can't be a killer. Everybody has skeletons in their closets and some are alot worse than others. To say don't judge a man by what he did outside the ring but only by what he did inside the ring is retarded. If the man is guilty, then he murdered his son. By smothering him. Thats completely different from just shooting someone. It takes time and will power to smother someone to death. All I'm saying is if it is found to be true than the man should rot in hell regardless of what he did in the ring. You have to be messed up in the head to kill your own kid.

Screw both your argument and your little essay. The man knew his wife wanted to leave him and take there son... like the violent man he always was he killed his wife, then his son, and then spent a day trying to figure out how to get out of his mess... in the ultimate act of any coward he took his life. The WWE has no taste or class... Chris Benoit is a murderer, a killer of the two people that he is supposed to place above everything in his life, and Vince McMahon airs a tribute to him on TV??? ESPN did not air three hours of OJ Simpson highlights the day after he killed Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman... this town needs an enema!

I see some of your point but my opinion is that until investigators come to a conclusion on the case i will still see him as innocent, Chris was a great wrestler and we should remember him for what he did in the wrestling ring and not outside of it.

OK I SEE YOUR POINT BUT I HAVE READ AN ARTICLE THAT HIS SON DID NOT HAVE FRAGILE X. THE WWE ATTORNEY TOOK BACK THAT CLAIM BECAUSE IT WAS FOUND TO BE UNTRUE. WE MAY NEVER KNOW WHAT HAPPENED OVER THE WEEKEND IN THAT HOUSE BUT ONE THING IS FOR SURE. ALL FANS OF WRESTLING WILL NEVER FORGET BENOIT AND WE WILL RESPECT HIS WIFE'S, HIS SON, AND HIS MEMORIES.
