Whenever my girlfriend gets something that has seeds, she refuses to eat it. like lets say we go to a restaurant and get Hamburgers. If the bun has seeds on it, she will sit there and take every single one off before she eats the burger! She had an experience where she nearly choked a few years back, but she claims shes been this way her whole life so I dont think thats it.
Why does she take the seeds off of everything??? Do a lot of people do this?

Virtually everybody is afraid of something, and in your girlfriend's case--it's seeds. She could have some hidden memory of something that happened many years ago--and it would probably take a therapist some time to find out what that was.

Why not just not order anything with seeds? There are seedless watermelon, seedless grapes, seedless buns, seedless bagels, etc. Be sure when ordering to specify NO SEEDS on the_______(whatever).

See, if it were me, I just would have eaten the burger without the bun--or asked for another bun with no seeds. So your girlfriend, in picking off all the seeds, may be on the brink of obsessive-compulsive, or something similar. She could speak to her doctor about it, or a therapist--but at this point, is it really that important to HER?

For example, I like tomato sauce--but not on pasta. Everyone wonders how I could eat pasta with no sauce. I'll eat it with alfredo sauce or butter or garlic & oil, etc. but not with tomato sauce. However, I will eat other foods with tomato sauce--even rice.

yes a lot of people...so much so that it has a name - it's called food aversion. Many times when people have a food aversion it has to do with texture or sometimes the person could have an allergy to this and not even realize it. Not all allergies elicit the same response and it may just cause her indigestion or fatigue. Just let her be - it doesn't really affect you anyway - it affects her...don't you think she feels silly picking off little seeds in public?

i do know people who don't like buns with seeds. at least, she needs to start asking ahead of time--does that have seeds? and ask for things without seeds! that will save a lot of time and awkwardness. her phobia might be a little extreme but it isn't hurting anyone so i'd just consider it one of her quirks and go with it.

She is just picky...

Leave the girl alone... Let her do what she wants...

SHE is doing it HERSELF.... MISS INDEPENDENT...

She doesn't need you to baby her, and she doesn't need you to ask these types of questions...

It is not a common thing, but A LOT of people do similar things like this, but not the exact same thing.

Who knows? It's possible she suffers from OCD.
