I lowered myself to ask my father for help getting a swing set for my daughter (would do about anything for my girl). He said he would help when he got some money (he is loaded). He is not the fatherly type, nor generous to put it nicely. He called the day after fathers day and left a message to thank me for calling on fathers day and said he sent a card with money for my daughters swing set (months after I asked).

I spoke to him today and he said he sent $150 CASH in the mail about two weeks ago.

Who sends cash through the mail? He is a successful contractor.

Do you think he actually sent it? I can not believe someone as old and money savvy as he would actually send cash through the mail.

What do you think? I am baffled.

I am not a freeloader, just going back to school, working and money is tight, but I wanted to get her a swingset for the back yard and they are soo expensive.

If I could get it on my own I would, the question is, do you think he really sent cash through the mail?

Based on what you told us, honestly, no, I really don't think that he did send it. I would give it one more week to see if it comes in the mail, and then call him again and tell him to be honest with you. Either he wants to help with his granddaughter or he doesn't, and tell him to not string you along. I mean, it just isn't nice to get your hopes up. You are not asking for the money for bullcrap. A swing set is a good investment, as it offers good cardiovascular workouts, and healthy play.
I believe that if a parent is able to help their child, no matter how old said child is, they should. Parenting does not completely stop until you(the parent) pass away. At least, that is how I expect to be with my babies.

I was wondering why I recieved $150.00 cash in the mail...it's never happened to me before. The swing set I purchased is very complicated..I need a contractor to put it together. I can't comment on ur father as I don't know him..but wht he is saying makes about as much sense as what I said.

Father I pray Your perfect will in this situation, as You bless her with a new swingset for her daughter. I praise You Lord for your goodness. In Jesus name I pray,

Amen

God Bless u,

Daniel

I think you should call him and let him know you are concerned that the money didn't make it to you through the mail. You know he wouldn't want your daughter disappointed that her grandpa didn't get her the swing set.

Reverse psychology ?

I'm sorry you are having such a difficult time with your father. Some fathers just don't know how to be ....

it first depends on where he lives for how long it's going to take to get the money (if he even sent it), then after that if he lives not too far from you, you probably should have recieved it already. What you're explaining sounds as if he is not very reliable though so chances are he didn't send it at all...but I would not really know much about that so maybe you should ask him or something?

Best wishes! :)

Who knows he may ver well have sent the money in the mail or use that as an excuse if it doesn't get there. I hope thta doesn't happen.
In any case regardless why you askd and you shouldn't have had to any granparent should be acheing to help out with their grandchild he should have sent you 500 bucks.. 150 isn't very much..

hope it turns out for you

either it got lost in the mail or he's lying. but save up and get one on your own, and then you'll be proud knowing YOU got it for her :)

Edit: I really can't say. I don't know him and can't accuse him of lying, it could have gotten lost in the mail. Most people know not to send cash but then some people do send it through the mail. I guess you could confront him if you are that worried?

I would think he is lying. What normal adult would send cash in the mail like that? It makes it an easy out for him, because if you didn't get it then he'll say a postal worker must have stolen it.

I am surprised he wouldn't jump at the chance to do something nice for his grand kids. Most grand parents would love to do something like that. Money is of no use in itself, only in the happiness it can bring and one of the best kinds of happiness is to brighten your childrens', or grand childrens' lives. Oh well, different strokes I guess.

You know your own father best. What are his feelings for your daughter? It sounds as though he does not approve of you too much.
