Yesterday, I was standing in front of the barbershop minding my own bussiness and this girl runs up to me and says" Oh my god, You look just like Matther Mchaugnhey when he was in the wedding planner." And then she giggles like she just gave me a compliment. Thats not a compliment thats an insult. What the hell, ladies? We, guys, dont do that to you. Do we?

Well, I can speak for some that I don't do that. If I wanted someone that look liked Matthew I would get Matthew himself and be satisfied. I don't compare people to others because I know some people can find it frustrating because I do. I hate it when people compare me to others, I want to be an individual. I want to look like myself. If people do say that I look like a celebrity I would find it flattering but insulting because I am nothing like them. I would think that I am too generic and probably people would think I am trying to be like that person.

Anyway to answer your question:
everyone does it. Men and women. It's the oldest pick-up line in the book. It's not a surprise that people still use it today.

What people have said is true, but I'm sure you understand that. It doesn't seem like that's your point.

The idea is that comparing someone to another person just makes the other person seem greater, so the real compliment ends up on the celebrity. It's like saying, "Well, you're almost as good, but not really!" The giggling isn't for the person who is being complimented, but for the celebrity as she thinks of him.

I understand your sentiments entirely.

(Besides, celebrities are fake.)

Well it is a compliment. So brush you shoulders off n thank the girl. You might actually like her.

The girl thought you were good looking and wanted to start a conversation. Maybe it was the wrong way to start talking to you, but not all of us have enough charm to just charm the pants off you.

Women love power. Celebs have power. That's why celebs have groupies. Looking like a celeb insinuates power, which is a major turn on to women.

Guys don't see it that way. I'm sure a girl wouldn't go around telling a guy she wants to boink that he looks like Hitler. Back when Hitler was powerful, though, she probably would have said it if it were even remotely true.
