I have an 03 Saturn ION2 and for the past week, the alarm has been going off for no apparent reason. Not only that, but for those who have an ION like me, you know that when you press your remote thing on your keychain, you press it once to lock all the doors and then press it again and you hear a 'honk'. It wont work like that anymore. Not only that, when I start to drive, the locks dont lock until a later time rather right when I begin to drive. It does it at random times. I now have to manually lock the doors to keep the alarm from going off. So does anyone out there know exactly what is the matter with it? I've only had it for 4 years and it already has over 100,000 miles on it. Thanks everyone.

This might sound odd, but an old car battery (4 years or more) doesn't hold a charge as well as a new one.

As the battery looses it's charge just sitting there, the alarm recognizes the loss of voltage and "thinks" someone opened the door causing the dome light to come on and therefore sets off the alarm.

Before you spend a whole bunch of money at a mechanics shop trying to diagnose the problem, change your battery. (the one in the car)

As far as the remote not working right, try changing the battery in the keyring thingie too.

As far as the locks not workning when you start to drive, there is a relay under the hood in the power distibution box that may need replacing.

ADDED:
Check your horn fuse too. (under the dash)

Well I thought someone might be trying to steal your car until I read what it was. So now that we've ruled that out, I don't know exactly what is wrong but I suspect one on the sensors is either stuck or defective. Since you said the horn wont honk when you arm it, I think one of the sensors is already tripped. You will have to rule out each circuit one at a time. If it uses door pin switches make sure that they each move freely.
Good luck, pardon my humor!

If your alarm is a good brand it will have a test system (after you turn on the key it will flash a number of times to indicate which sensor is firing) Check the manual or go to their web site for diagnostics...
