Nope. There are other "timing" issues.

The breaking (or failure) of the condom is 2/100, which is an independent event compared with getting pregnant which is about 5/28 days. So the probability of these two independent events both happening at the same time is 2/100 x 5/28 = 10/2800 = 1/280 which is about 0.35% -- less than 1/2 percent.

And if you think about this math during sex, I am sure you will never get pregnant, especially if you start by discussing the probabilities of independent events.

That's not how it works..
The 98% effectivity applies to each individual condom. That means that every time you have sex there is a 98% chance that the girl will not get pregnant, and 2% chance that she will.

The effectiveness of condoms with correct and consist use is around 78%. That means that every time you have sex using one, you have a 22% chance of getting pregnant. It's numbers game.

If you suspect the condom has leaked or torn, try to get Plan B from the nearest pharmacy within 72 hours. The sooner, the better.

I think when they declare the % of effectiveness of a method of birth control, usually it's the % of women who use this as their only method of birth control who manage not to get pregnant in one year. In your example if 100 women used condoms for a year, 2 would get pregnant and the rest wouldn't. Usually they tell you in the fine print exactly what it means.

(BTW, I think 98% is a little on the high side when it comes to estimates of the effectiveness of condoms.)

Well...that's what they say!! So is taking the pill too!!

I have an 18yr old who was conceived using both the pill and a condom. I had been on the pill about 2 years by then and the condoms were a freshly bought pack.

Abstinence is the only SAFE and EFFECTIVE form of birth control!!

Good Luck!

(and no, the chance of getting pregnant is supposedly 2%)

Many a child are made by accident. Condoms have expiration dates, you just have to be able to roll it out all the way to see it.
