Why do the girls spell it ANA when Anorexia is ANO? Wouldn't that make it Pro-Ano? All the girls at my school are doing the Pro-Ana thing and it's rather stupid.

Because Ana is a female name and Ano is not. They refer to their eating disorders as if they were friends....ED, Ana and Mia.

The use of the word "Ana" and "Mia" (for Bulimia) serve to make the diseases sound human and like a friend. If you read posts on these sites, the girls almost seem to regard their disorders as friends. "Ana" is a girl's name, "Ano" doesn't sound much like a name.

It is rather stupid. I think they do it to give it more of a human face and to make it seem less clinical and dangerous and more like a fun little club. It's the same thing with the Pro-Mia garbage. Do you notice they both have cute little female names?
