I can sleep under any conditions. I live in a ground floor apartment in Manhattan facing the street. I hear sirens, garbage trucks, people talking -- none of it bothers me. However, I also fall asleep easily when I'm out in the 'burbs visiting my sister.
So to answer your question, I do not need to sleep with sound but it doesn't bother me if there happens to be a lot of noise.

Quietness makes me think to much, if I don't have sound I can't get to sleep. I sleep with the TV on :D If I wake up and somehow the TV is not on, I can never get back to sleep.

I can sleep in any conditions and once asleep will sleep thorugh almost anything. The funny thing is, if I have my choice, I prefer a cold, dark, silent room.

I sleep with the tv on if it gets shut off I will wake up instantly.

I do EXACTLY that! Wow that's weird!
All except facing the fan towards the wall during winter, I welcome it as long as I can snuggle up with lots of warm blankets. ;)

I definitely have to sleep with sound. I always go to bed listening some music.
