when that whole field is nothing but a dangerous sham! from old times when they would electro shock therapy patients torture style to so called cure them! all the way up until today when they try to put young people on ritalin even though it is clearly being over prescribed. and many horrible things in between like blaming autism on bad mothering!

knowing that the whole field is a sham why is it so popular although we are degenerating fast mentally in this country, and more and more people now go to psych treatments and the more people go the more problems they get!

50 years ago the majority of men would refuse to go to a psych dr and there was soo much less crime and mental disease then.

my cousin has a masters from columbia in some kind of psychology she says she is against drugs but i am against both psychologists and psychiatrists

not to say that their aren't good psych practices in alternative therapies though! obviously they will rise up and dangerous fields will fall.

lol no i havent been diagnosed with anything and yes i have seen a psychologist before my school sent me because they said that my beliefs were too rigid. i seen him for im not sure how long (couple months less than 1 school yr) but eventually i stopped having to go and the dr told me i was fine.

and no it wasnt a bad experience actually it was kinda fun for me also it wasnt fun cuz id have to go after school and id rather be out playing.

:::but i do see how schools today are prescribing ritalin at dangerous rates and i know that the psych field and fda together have actually made statements saying that they want every kid in school to be evaluated and then if they are prescribed a drug and refuse they wont be allowed in school.:::

now do u think that its a safe field still? i mean everyone that is smart knows its full of holes which was fine with me until i heard about that thing where every child will be evaluated!! ill tell u my kids are gonna be homeschooled if that happens!

I would recommend the writings of Dr. Thomas Szasz (The Myth of Mental Illness), it would at least validate your thinking.
However, aren't you in your tirade, to some degree playing psychologist. Maybe you are projection some personal issues you have encountered, on to the science as a whole. You might consider researching the field, and then draw a more informed conclusion.
I don't think you will however, you hurt is so very deep rooted.
Sincerely.

I think psychologist and psychiatrist are like the "saviors" of severe mental health. Some people need help beyond talking to a friend or family member.
It's amazing how many people have mental health issues and do not get help for them. Allowing a mental health issue to go unnoticed is something that should not be done. It's very dangerous and could only be curred by a professional.

Hopefully, you can have an optimistic perspective and consider the people that need therapy verses people who go to get someone on their side.

Did you have a bad experience with one? have you even seen one? If so, what they say about your views? Did they diagnosis you? LOL! I'm a little interested in what they said.

I understand the fears, however, I am not afraid of the science of the study of the mind. I also do not put my faith in psychologists and psychiatrists or any doctor for that matter. I believe that working with any doctor is a partnership just like a business partnership. The business we are working on is my body in the case of a medical doctor and my mind in the case of a mental health professional.

Doctors have studied in their field and have a wealth of knowledge that I do not have. I depend on their knowledge because I don’t want to take the time to research what they already know. I strongly believe in getting a second opinion. I also believe in holistic medicine as well as alternative medicine. I don’t believe in taking medication if there is another way.

I don’t think people should trust a doctor without the doctor proving him or herself trustworthy.

Psychiatry has changed so much since the era of EST. But as with all sciences it has developed and changed for the better. Understanding one's mind and reasons for ones actions can help stop destructive behaviours. I have OCD (obessive compulsive disorder) and without psychotherapy and medication I would still be trapped in my house, with no friends and would completely alienated my family.

I do not under any circumstance put all my faith in my therapist, I have spent many many years trying to find someone who suits my needs. I am well read on the subject of OCD and am in full control of my therapy. Although I will never be cured of this disorder as it is organic and it is something out of my control, at this point in my life I am finding that therapy is helping me with some far deep seated issues that only subtly relate to my disorder.

Without my medication I wouldn't be happy, I would be a mess. I thank god that he gave someone the knowledge and wisdom to create my medication.

The system works. The fact that your afraid of it proves it in your own mind. If you choose to get past you little barrier, you will be more interested, interesting andhappier.
