This is consumer fraud. Contact your state's Consumer Fraud office. It might be called something else in your state. They probably also broke federal laws since it was done via computer and possibly over state lines.

It might depend on a few factors.

1 Was/is there a disclaimer that prices are subject to change? This is common with some products.
2. What are the laws in the State the company is in?
3. Did they give you the option to NOT accept the new price and cancel the order?
4. You left out how much the increase was or is this a hypothetical?
5. Did they charge your CC before shipping and sending the Email.
All this factors in.

I would have just canceld the order as a matter of principle had there been no disclaimer.

if you preordered it -that means you paid with a check or credit card-tell you are smart and did it this way because if not you will not have any thing to stand on legal.
because they can always saythat is the same email they send out to everyone who order online. you need proof you paid them
so i will go on with the avenues
1-call your credit card company and file a bad purchase so you will not be completely out of the money you paid if you paid.
but if you just order it that is a different store -price do change and so do the product-so maybe they can do that. but you need more information go to legalzoom.com and see if they have any information on this for your state.
You can also call your consumer laws protection at your state government center.
They can be found in the blue pages in your phone book.
Some companies are nice and will give you a product that is like that product for the preorder amount but that is base on each company has different policies when it comes customer services.

I suppose you could say that technically you offered to purchase at that price and that their invoice to you was an acceptance of the offer, so you have an enforceable contract.

Then if they can't or won't sell at that price, they better have a darn good reason. In the US, these things are governed by the UCC and a lot of other stuff, so maybe you could go through a lot of aggravation and maybe win the right to buy it at that price, maybe not. But why bother? You haven't paid them anything, so you are not out anything. Better to spend your precious time looking for another source with the low price you demand.

If you were not charged or were refunded for the item, then yes, they can change the price. If you were not charged or were refunded, no sale ever took place.

If they charged you the new, higher price, this would be a type of fraud referred to as "bait and switch."

So, the main issue is whether or not you were charged for the item, whether you were refunded, or whether you were charged a higher price than you originally agreed to pay.

No, they have to honor the price that was marked when you ordered it. Just like if you go to a store and the price tag is wrong you still pay the price on the tag --- I think
