Well if I remember right they get thrown away, so they are now part of the festering landfill that is threatening to take over the world. Don't you feel better now, knowing that TSA has made everyone on your plane safe from the dreaded nail clippers all the while they are also contaminating the earth? I am not yelling at you, it is not your fault that our government has turned from commom sense to common fear as a way to protect our country.

Don't know about the nail clippers, but someone at BoingBoing said that a TSA officer told her that the potentially terrorist "dangerous liquids" (toothpaste, eye drops, lotions, etc.) that they confiscate get donated to homeless shelters. Weird. Personally, my bet is that they take that stuff home, but only to "keep the country safe"....

Some things get sold on ebay, some things get thrown away.
The other things they donate to Travelers Aid or The Interfaith Chaplaincy and then they have a big sale a few times a year. The also sell the old iPod's and stuff ppl leave behind!
Treasures to be found!!!!!

i've got in my opinion witnessed a TSA agent confiscate a everyday's roll of commander's funds from the everyday himself. inspite of his protestations the lively-duty everyday, vacationing on good employer, substitute into no longer able to get the agent to return his funds.

i work at the airport and if anything was new (like perfume, clippers and lotions) and still in the package, the employees will take the package home with them . So pack lite! And buy those things when you get to your destination.

Knowing how silly almost EVERYthing is, my guess is they are required to throw them away, even items in perfect condition.
I don't know, though, maybe sombody will really know....
