Yes, very good, but not especially quick. Make sure it's in good order, and that there's no evidence of overheating: The big issue with these engines is blown head gaskets due to them getting too hot.

Get it checked out by someone with experience with BMs before purchase.

Buy a good one, look after it, and it'll last you indefinitely.

Back in 1991, VANOS wasn't invented yet, so this car has no VANOS.

Also I believe the M50B20 engine used timing belt instead of chains at that time.

Nothing really bad about these 2 points, just that chains are much more durable, and VANOS makes your engine run with more power and smoothness combined.

Maybe you should look at a 1993 or 1994 model instead.
