I would say that Sony is the best out of the ones that you've listed. Also, someone mentioned this already, but Toshiba makes excellent notebooks. Btw, I have a Dell Inspiron and it is also excllent.

None of these matter. These companies just buy parts of other companies, and put the computers together to sell. Some hp's might have the same exact parts inside as some gateway. All the companies have good computers, shitty computers, in-betweens. Its like cars. You got toyota carollas, and you got toyota supras. Totally different cars, same company.

Generally though, sony makes better ones because most of there models are high end. They are like the BMW. But all the other ones make there high end models too. It all depends on what you want your computer to do, and how much money your willing to spend. Careful with sony; there computers are generally pretty good, but always over priced.

In my opinion, you can get a "lemon" from any manufacturer at any time. I make an effort to buy from a manufacturer that has been in business for some time and which has a good reputation for support. You will find support as important as price.

With that said, if you can afford it, I like HP and SONY.

It all depends on the use that you will give it. I just use my laptop for internet and for Itunes, I have an ACER and it works great...so far ( 2 Years) and memory upgrade.

Acer would be the best choice. Also look into Toshiba. Their Laptops are exceptional.
