A lot of hospitals don't even offer the gas anymore. it just makes you loopy. With the epidural at least you are fully aware of what is happening without as much pain, for some it means no pain. I've heard horror stories of women hyperventilating from breathing too much gas and having to have a c-section because your oxygen levels drop and then the baby goes into distress.

As for how dilated you are before they can't give you the epidural, again that all depends on the doctor, the guy giving you the epidural and the hospital. Some say after 7cm they won't do it, some will do it right up until fully dilated as long as you can sit still long enough. Depending on what kind of epidural you get will also depend on how quickly it takes effect. For some women it's instant, for others it might take up to 20 minutes to take full effect.

As for the baby's position, as long as he is head down it should be okay. You are also only at 33 weeks so baby is going to keep moving around for awhile. At 33 weeks I had my baby go head down for a day and I could hardly walk, I was so grateful when he returned to his upright yoga position. I wouldn't worry about baby's position until you hit 38 weeks. You'll doctor will let you know if you need to worry.

Don't worry about how you deliver. The goal is for both you and the baby to be ok at the end. If that means a c-section it doesn't make you any less of a woman or a mother. Stop stressing and just enjoy these last few weeks. Congrats on the bundle of joy!

From my personal experience... epidural is the way to go. I wouldn't have it any other way. Ive never heard of the gas and air option and that honestly sounds very frightening to me.
After you get past the initial pain of the epidural.. its all smooth sailing from there - it was for me at least.
I think my comment to the nurse after the epidural went something like this...
"Ooohhhh.... *moans of relief* do they sell this on the street?? Because if they do..."

you have to be at least 5 cm dilated with an epidural. the thing i found about epidurals though is thta it can effect how long your labor is. i had one. it worked great for the time i had it but i was in labor for 19 hours. i let it wear off towards the end because i thought i was effecting how long i was in labor. i finally dialted and had him and pretty much felt everything. next time i am going to try natural. i had to have oxygen because my son's heart rate was going down. but good luck with whatever you choose and congrats. trust me you can get through it no matter what you choose it's not all tnat bad. it is the most work you'll ever do. thta's coming from someone who has been in the military and boot camp and it didn't even compare to childbirth

The gas actually made me kind of mad. They gave it to me while I waited for the epidural to arrive, I guess it helped a bit, but the mask really made me angry! I think if the baby is coming really fast you might not be able to get an epidural.

My advice to every Pregnant woman is EPIDURAL!!!

two aspects to the tale right here, again within the 60's whilst the m16 first got here out in iraq the ak had it fingers down, correctly american specail ops might use ak's again within the day. Nowdays ak47 have the knowledge for an untrained military who typically isn't a correct shot besides for spray and pray form strategies with a nil renovation, safe, and available weapon. The knowledge of an m16's are countless for a good informed form unit. Firstly colossal quantities of ammo will also be carried as a result of the sunshine weight of the five.fifty six circular over the ak. Accuracy is far awesome and the reliabity issues are nearly solved. As good whilst outfitted with scope and night time imaginative and prescient skills they're awesome for a informed soldier to fireplace. If I used to be offering a untrained gorrilla form military it might be ak47 all of the method, no renovation, notable difficult, convenient to provide and violent and really frightening to be shot at with. For a traditional military, the five.fifty six m16 is awesome, correct fireplace will also be positioned down, they're gentle and the five.fifty six is totally distructive to a human frame as a result of the tumbling and oscillating of the bullet. In reality the smaller circular within the m16 is regarded extra deadly to delicate ambitions as a result of this tumbling splinting outcome, the ballistics had been all confirmed within the 60's. Oh and the significant factor every body forgets is the specific russian military specail forces makes use of a five.fifty four circular in there ak74 since of the fashion in speedy top pace rounds. The insurgents nonetheless fireplace a 7.sixty two most commonly.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'gas and air', but I had an epidural with both of my sons and loved it- goes from unbearable to doable.
