Hello Bex, That was about 25 years ago. I had been out work about 4 months, then got a job was on it about 3 weeks.
My home caught fire burnt totaly down, lost every thing. Thankfuly wife an 1 yr old son escaped. Plus our black cat, lol.
We had no money, moved in with inlaws for 5 years an built our own home close by.
People we never knew came by an donated clothes , money etc. One man gave me $20.00 turn round gave wife $20.00 said he didnt know how we handled finances so he gave equal to each one.
The people where I worked gave Dishes , Silverware an took up nearly $300.00 an I only been there 3 weeks.
All that taught wife an my self that theres good in all people, an we have gave when able to any one in a hard ship since then.

As a young child, my mother and I were homeless. It changed me a great deal. We never knew where our next meal was coming from, or where we'd sleep that night. When we went into the homeless shelter, I saw things that will stick with me for the rest of my life. One event in particular sticks out in my mind. A young child, only two or three, was so hungry she was crying. Her mother couldn't have been more than sixteen. The little girl was so frail, it looked like the wind could blow right through her. We had to attend Mass before each meal and the man leading it kicked the young mother and her child out because she couldn't stop the child's crying. That turned me against Catholicism for life. The next day the mother came into the shelter, but her daughter wasn't with her. I've wondered many times what happened to the frail little girl, but I never asked. I now lend a hand where I can. Homelessness is a huge problem, that we should all be trying to combat. After 32 years, I still remember the six months I spent in the homeless shelter and the four we spent on the streets.

I lived off of rice and tomatoes (my neighbor grew them and would give me some everyweek) for 3 months because my ex-husband was a crackhead I was 17 and had a baby I used to wait for him to pass out so I can rob him so I could feed my baby with the money I could get from him I had no choice or my baby would have died my family didn't live near me So one day I took anything worth selling and the car and went to my family got a job and never looked back I guess I can say it taught me to be a good mother I still hide money and I'm constantly afraid my kids will go hungry and I don't trust people like I used to but my life has been better even when I'm broke I know I don't have to deal with that ever again.

I lived in the car with no money for food. It changed my outlook on life forever. I am definetly more willing to help the needy. I had no choice but to be in that situation and I slowly worked my way out of it, but I will never forget when I had nothing and now I am grateful for what most people take advantage of like electricity and even a roof over my head.
