There is this amazing hole in the wall restaurant where I live in Delray Beach, Florida called "Villa Rosano"
The thing about this restaurant is that it is so unpretentious, so homey, but with some of the most creative itallian food I have ever had. They have the freshest, most amazing soups, tremendous seafood.... and the best part is that the owners are always there, overseeing, working & running the ship. It's not one of those chain restaurants like Olive Garden or Carrabas... it's truly a great night out!

Sammy's Sandwich Shop
1. Birmingham, AL. Right by the airport.
2. They will put a cheeseburger on you!
3. If you go there twice in a month, and order the same thing both times, the third time you go, just nod to Suzie, and she'll get the cook on it.
Love, love, love that place, and this question

Last year I went to Manhattan for the first time in about ten years. I was so disappointed that my favorite restaurant was no longer there. It was called the Pot Belly and was down in Greenwich Village. GRRRRRRREAT down home cooking -- mouth-watering hamburgers with about three pounds of meat, French fries that were better than sex, etc etc etc. And it was very, very low-key -- the brickwork was exposed, and you went down several steps from the street to get to the front door. You also had to squeeze past the cook in the rear kitchen to reach the bathroom. Oh, and the place was long but very narrow.
Thanks for prompting me to drudge up a pleasant memory -- much more enjoyable than the usual memories one drudges up. :-) But that's our Bee -- always wanting people to enjoy themselves!

Murphy's Deli, in Providence Rhode Island. I haven't been in years but it was always a pretty cool place... a combination Jewish deli/ Irish bar, run by Armenians, with Guinness on tap. My other favorite was the Silver Top Diner for late night eats, but it's gone now- forced out by an off ramp for a shopping mall. :(
