I am a stay at home mom of 3 boys ages 2, 4, & 5. I am homeschooling the 2 oldest. I decided that I would like to supplement our family's income by working from home. So the long proceess of looking began. There are some jobs out there that are not scams, but require a good chunk of your time to do, and don't always pay you enough to cover your bills.

Do your research. Get the company's full name, address, and phone number. You should be able to get the name of upper management, and an explanation of how you are paid, so you can verify it is a legit company. Look to see if it is a reputable company- check with the BBB and government agencies. This will help you to narrow down your list tremendously.

DO NOT give out all your information until you know that it is a legit job and you want it. All employers need the employee's full name, SSN, and address for tax and pay purposes- if the company you choose doesn't ask for this information RUN- they are not doing taxes correctly, or not at all. You don't need the hassle of the IRS on your back.

Some envelope stuffing and assembly jobs are legit (very time consuming, when you take the time to do the math, you make less than minimum wage for these jobs).

Medical billing/ book keeping/ typing jobs are hard to come by and often require you take special courses for certification. You could put the word out that you are looking for a job like this and see if a friend or family member knows of an opening somewhere.

You may want to consider a home business- the tax benefits are awesome. Look at your hobbies/ interests to see if there could be a lucrative business in one of them. You need to consider the trends and your target market. You could do daycare, an eBay store, or one of the well known distributor/representative companies (Avon, Mary Kay, Pampered Chef, Premeire Jewelery....) These companies are tried and true and could be a good fit for you if you like meeting new people and having small parties.

My husband and I finally settled on opening an on line travel agency with a really great company. We are very happy with our decision, and my husband won't have to work any more after the holidays. Its not hard work , but you still have to work. You need to let people know about your website by handing out business cards, flyers, brochures, and advertising online BUT I can do this around my boys schedule, and its easy to hand a card to someone and say check us out. The more I am able to get the word out, the more money I make (common sense). The website is supported by the company , so I do not need to constantly supervise, just periodically check on it and check my emails. I love it!

Hi Sondra. I am a stay home mom too like you. THere are lots of jobs online but please don't get tempted to join just any of them out of curiousity or because they promise to give you thousands of dollars of income a month. I have been through a lot of these in my desire to earn money and make my time productive, but I ended up losing money every month. I know now which ones are real and which ones are merely scams. One thing more, there is NO EASY MONEY. Believe me. You still have to work hard for it. And everything you will earn will be worth all your effort.
